As the Electrical Design Lead for a data centre project, you will report directly to the Office/Team Director. Your main responsibility will be to manage and oversee the electrical design aspects of the project from its initial stages to its completion.

You will be expected to manage your workload efficiently, producing designs, specifications and reports on time and to the required quality expected of an experienced senior level building services consulting engineer. Will have a good appreciation and understanding of the other building services disciplines and be capable of representing Desco front facing with other professional design team members i.e. architects, structural engineers, project managers, quantity surveyors etc.

The candidate ideally will have 5+ years permanent data centre design experience and have attained recognised engineering and management qualifications. Would like to see membership of CIBSE and IET Institutions as well as be Engineering Council registered. The successful candidate will join and become an integral member of a highly motivated and expanding multi-disciplined MEP team located across the UK.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

• Develop conceptual & detailed design solutions in line with Client s brief
• Oversee and verify electrical services design calculations using Trimble (Amtech), Hevacomp, and various lighting software
• Manage Medium Voltage design briefing and reviews with our supply chain
• Manage Utility provider point of connections and interface with proejcts
• Management of projects to achieve client satisfaction and profitability for the business
• Identify and manage resources to achieve project requirements
• Financial management and reporting on project profitability
• Technical and quality reviews of project information
• Developing conceptual & detailed design solutions in line with client s brief
• Represent the business at a wide range of meetings
• Assist in the preparation of fee submissions and project bids
• Good communicator with a professional approach to all work and ability to interface and build relationships with clients to secure repeat business
• Reviewing technical competency of electrical work
• Design, supervision and technical reviewing of allocated projects
• Provide specialist technical advice and guidance at project and group level
• Assist in the production of electrical services specifications and schedules
• Conduct feasibility studies & conduct initial and concept electrical designs and review developed detail design
• Provide technical support and advice and work directly with clients to deliver various projects as well as providing statements/reports
• Support the project director on commercial, technical and client matters as well as providing support to the Technical Director / Board Director with regard to business development within the Mission Critical Sector

Qualifications

• Educated to at least Degree level in a relevant subject such as Building Services or Electrical Engineering.
• Chartered Engineer or equivalent.

Experience

• Electrical services design concept, performance and detailed.
• Highly experienced in the production of detailed electrical design solutions for services such as MV/LV Distribution, Substations, UPS, Generators, Small Power, Lighting, Lightning Protection Earthing in relation to mission critical facilities.
• Familiarity with codes preferably including British Standards, CIBSE, International Codes
• Demonstrated understanding of design risk factors for redundancy and resiliency
• Familiarity with Data Centre tier rating systems
• Familiarity with multiple Hyperscaler and Large Co-Location requirements, understanding of design differences in hyper-scale, edge, and colocation data centres
• Possesses a proficiency in 3D modelling as well as managing and creating complex families with custom parameters within Autodesk Revit
• Strong knowledge of Autodesk Revit (Operational / deliverable based)
• Experience utilizing ACC, BIM 360, Navisworks. BMS and Controls. Sustainable, renewable, LZC technologies.

You will also be experienced in undertaking project management duties on M&E Design Projects, have knowledge and understanding of the latest UK & international Building Regulations, Design Standards and Guides. Possess10+ year s experience of a recognised mainstream UK engineering consultancy organisation
