Overview
Our client, a well-established public sector estate in Kent, is seeking an experienced Interim Building Surveyor to support their estates and facilities function on a client-side basis. The role will focus on maintaining and improving an operational public estate, ensuring statutory compliance and delivery of planned and reactive works.
This is an excellent opportunity for a hands-on surveyor with strong public sector or education experience to add immediate value within a complex, live-environment estate.
Key Responsibilities
Act as a client-side Building Surveyor, overseeing condition, compliance and maintenance of a varied estate
Undertake and manage condition surveys, defect diagnosis and remedial recommendations
Lead and manage planned maintenance programmes and minor capital works projects
Oversee consultants and contractors, ensuring quality, value for money and compliance
Support statutory and regulatory compliance, including health & safety, fire safety and building regulations
Assist with dilapidations, lifecycle planning and asset condition data
Provide technical advice to internal estates stakeholders and senior management
Ensure works are delivered with minimal disruption to teaching, research and student activities
Essential Experience & Skills
Proven experience as a Building Surveyor in a client-side role
Background within higher education, education, NHS, local authority or wider public sector estates (highly desirable)
Strong working knowledge of UK building regulations, compliance and H&S legislation
Experience managing live operational environments
Confident managing multiple workstreams and contractors independently
Strong stakeholder management and communication skills
Qualifications & Professional Membership
Degree or equivalent qualification in Building Surveying or a related discipline
MRICS / FRICS (or working towards) is strongly preferred
Valid UK driving licence (due to travel across estate sites in Kent)
