We are delighted to be working with an established Mechanical and Electrical Building Services Contractor as they develop their Facilities Maintenance division. This contractor has long been recognised as a leading M&E specialist who have steadily built an unrivalled reputation for quality.
Their aim is to develop a Facilities Maintenance division who can support their clients with the smooth and efficient running of their buildings and help them to evolve their space to best suit the needs of their people and business. As part of this vision, they are seeking a Junior QS to join the team to work closely alongside an experienced QS who will mentor them in the world of MTC planned maintenance and small works.
Your new role
As the trainee QS, you will assist the Quantity Surveyors with all daily operational tasks and to ensure senior management reports are accurate and updated in advance of client meetings.
Some of the main duties you will assist the Senior QS’s with include:
• Operational and commercial management of projects.
• Setting budgets and agreeing specifications for works pre-start and closely monitoring throughout to ensure project targets are achieved.
• Provide contractual and cost advice to operational management and staff.
• Procurement and cost management of Subcontractor packages.
• Preparation, costing and submission of Early Warning and Compensation Event Notifications in line with NEC contract requirements.
• Ensure detailed records of works are recorded and maintained, that are accurate and auditable and available for submission as required in a timely manner.
• Surveys and costing of proposed works and remeasurement of completed works.
• Quality audit of works from site records to ensure works have been completed to client instructions and contract specifications.
• Preparation and submission of job costs in line with the contract Schedule of Rates

What you’ll need to succeed
Ideally, you will have completed a time served Electrical, Plumbing or HVAC apprenticeship and have experience working in a Maintenance or Contracting environment.
Alternatively, you will have a degree in Quantity Surveying with 1 year’s experience in a mechanical or electrical contracting or facilities maintenance environment.
You must be a confident and strong communicator both verbally and written with good IT and mathematical skills.
